Rams 41-29 over the 49ers: On Thursday night games usually are boring and bad but both teams made it competitive as both teams offenses came to play. 1. QB Jared Goff is continuing his coming out party tour this year by throwing 3 TD passes with no interceptions and threw for just under 300 yards. While RB Todd Gurley who now has a passing attack to take the pressure of him had 2 rushing TDS, with 149 all purpose yards, and caught one of the Goff’s 3 TD passes for a receiving TD. WR Sammy Watkins caught the other 2 TD passes with over 100 yards receiving joining fellow WR Robert Woods who also had over 100 yards. 2. While the 49ers were no slouch on offense putting up numbers on the vaunted defense of the Rams. QB Brian Hoyer despite a pick had 2 TD passes while throwing for over 330 yards and had a rushing TD to boot. While RB Carlos Hyde had 2 rushing TDS but it wasn’t enough as San Francisco is 0-3.
Jaguars 44-7 over the Ravens: Well the home team in London the Jaguars came out to play.1. QB Blake Bortles was pick free with 4 TD passes with 3 of them going to TE Mercedes Lewis. RB Leonard Fournette has three straight weeks to start his career with a rushing TD. It was such a blow out QB Chad Henne came in 2. For the other team it was a disaster. QB Joe Flacco threw two interceptions and was benched in favor of QB Ryan Mallett, of all people. Their only saving grace was that the game was in London and that they scored a TD late in the game from Mallet to TE Ben Watson.
Colts 31-28 over the Browns: People were worried the Colts were going to lose to the Browns since they didn’t have QB Andrew Luck, but QB Jacoby Brissett proved them wrong. 1. Brissett had one TD pass with no interceptions and had two rushing TDS. RB Frank Gore has scored a TD in back to back weeks. One of the casualties of not having Luck under center was WR TY Hilton not doing well so with the day Brissett had he turned around Hilton’s season as the WR had over 100 yards receiving and a TD pass. 2. Now Cleveland’s QB DeShone Kizer had 2 passing TDS and rushing TD, but his three interceptions doomed him. WR Kenny Britt caught one of those TD passes showing he might have gotten out of the dog house.
Eagles 27-24 over the Giants: Despite QB Carson Wentz average day of 1 TD pass that went to TE Zach Ertz and under 200 yard passing game, the rushing game was the story. 1. Both LeGarrette Blount and Corey Clement had rushing TDS. That the 14-0 lead they had till the fourth quarter was enough to withstand a 24 point barrage from the Giants. 2. QB Eli Manning and the offense showed up. Manning had over 330 yards passing and 3 TD passes but again his two interceptions cost him. WR Odell Beckham Jr. looked like his old self catching 2 of the 3 TDS which is a positive sign going forth. WR Sterling Sheppard had over 130 yards receiving while catching the other TD. Giants did have the lead but blew it and lost on a game winning field goal as time expired.
Jets 20-6 over the Dolphins: Well the Jets will certainly now win two games instead of 1. The Jets defense stopped QB Jay Cutler and RB Jay Ajayi. Ajayi was held under 20 yards in the running game, and they held Cutler to 200 yards with only 1 TD pass and picked him off once. They simply had to make fewer mistakes than the Dolphins like not missing an extra point which kicker Cody Parkey did. 2. QB Josh McCown had one TD pass without an interception and RB Bilal Powell had a rushing TD.
Bills 26-16 over the Broncos: It was mostly a field goal game with 7 for this game. 1. QB Trevor Siemian came back down to earth after his 4 TD vs. Dallas last week. This week had no TD passes and was picked off two times and if it wasn’t for Jamal Charles’ rushing TD they would have not had any TDS. 2. For the Bills QB Tyrod Taylor had a clean game with no picks and TD passes. That was the clear difference a mistake free game by one QB, while a mistake no TD for the other. Hey the Buffalo Bills already have one two wins this year, one more than I thought.
Saints 34-13 over the Panthers: It wasn’t an upset but it was a shock based on the score for the game since the Panthers are supposed to have a good defense, and the Saints historically bad defense showed up as well. 1. QB Drew Brees had 3 TD passes and 0 interceptions while Panthers QB Cam Newton had 0 TD passes and 3 interceptions. Newton was so bad in this blowout they put in his backup QB Derrick Anderson in. 2. The only TD for Carolina was a rushing TD by Cam Newtown, and the leading receiver was rookie RB Christian McCaffery with 101 yards; two things that shouldn’t happen if you want to win a game. 3. The Saints defense even had 2 forced fumbles and four sacks.
Bears 23-17 over the Steelers: Now this boys and girls was the real upset of the week despite the Bears few attempts to give the game away, but give them credit after the way they didn’t show up last week. 1. RB Jordan Howard despite his fumble one of four for the Bears offense was the star of the game. He was the leading rusher with 138 yards and had 2 rushing TDS. He had the game winner in OT after rookie RB Tarik Cohen’s OT TD was called back. Howard even was the leading receiver with 26 yards as it was a rushing game since QB Mike Glennon barely had over 100 yards with a TD pass and a fumble. 2. Ben Roethlisberger was his usual self in terms of no picks but he had a fumble. He had a TD pass to WR Antonio Brown and RB Le’Veon Bell had a rushing TD. 3. CB Marcus Cooper Sr. had the ‘Leon Lett’ play of the game as Cornerback Sherrick McMani blocked a punt and Cooper returned it almost all the way for a TD but started to slow up before the end zone and fumbled in the end zone. That caused the Bears to settle for a field goal (3 points) not a touchdown (7) which almost cost them the game they had to win in OT.
Falcons 30-26 over the Lions: Despite the three interceptions from QB Matt Ryan the Falcons are 3-0. 1. Ryan did have 2 TD passes while RB Devonta Freeman had over 100 yards rushing and a rushing TD. 2. It was a seven field goal game and in one quarter they had four of them while the Lions returned one of the interceptions for a TD. 3. Despite having a clean game QB Matthew Stafford only had 1 TD pass and a 270 yard game having to rely on those field goals. The Lions thought they won the game on a TD pass to Golden Tate, but since they had no timeouts the play was overturned. The refs said he was down before he got in, and because of the rule a 10 second run out happens and game over since they had only 8 seconds.
Vikings 34-17 over the Buccaneers: 1. The difference in the game was the QB play. The better QB James Winston had 2 TDS with over 320 yards but threw three picks, while backup QB really 3rd string Minnesota QB Case Keenum threw for over 330 yards with 3 TDS. His big performance was a change of pace from last week’s 0 TD pass in a loss. It helped turn around WR Stefon Diggs after his poor performance last week by throwing Diggs 2 TD passes and for over 170 yards. 2. It was too late by halftime with Minnesota being up 21-3 at halftime and then up 31-7 in the 3rd quarter before Tampa scored again in the quarter.
Patriots 36-33 over the Texans: 1. All you need to know is Tom Brady. He threw for over 370 yards and 5 TDS. WR Brandon Cooks rebounded from a down game to catch two of those TD passes while having 131 yards receiving. TE Rob Gronkowski had one of those TDS and WR Chris Hogan rebounded too catching the other 2 TD passes. 2. The positive thing for Houston was that rookie QB DeShaun Watson had 2 TD passes and that LB Jadevon Clowney recovered a Tom Brady fumble for a TD, 1 of the three they forced as a team. The negative was Watson threw for two picks and fumbled it twice.
Titans 33-27 over the Seahawks: 1. QB Russell Wilson had a bounce back game with over 370 yards and 4 TD passes. WR Doug Baldwin caught one of the four TD passes and having 105 yards receiving, but it wasn’t enough. 2. The vaunted Seattle defense gave up a total of 420 yards while letting RB DeMarco Murray run all over for 115 yards rushing and a TD. QB Marcus Mariota threw 2 TD passes and Tennessee was up 30-14 going into the fourth, making it difficult for Wilson to comeback all the way.
Packers 27-24 over the Bengals: 1. Well QB Andy Dalton had no picks and threw 2 TD passes while having the team up 21-7 going into half time, but that was the last time there were any positives for Cincinnati. WR AJ Green caught one of those 2 TD passes while he also had 111 receiving yards and the defense intercepted QB Aaron Rodgers for a TD. 2. Rodgers led the comeback trail by throwing 2 TD passes to WR Jordy Nelson in the 2nd half. Kicker Mason Crosby hit two key field goals in one the 4th and game winner in OT, to seal the comeback win for Green Bay and keeping the Bengals from having a win.
Chiefs 24-10 over the Chargers: The Chiefs showed up again on both sides of the ball to stay undefeated while preventing the Chargers from getting their first win. 1. RB Kareem Hunt had over 170 rushing yards with a rushing TD, and WR Tyreek Hill caught one of the 2 TD passes QB Alex Smith threw, who also had no interceptions. 2. Kansas City’s defense picked off QB Philip Rivers three times and didn’t allow a passing TD, but RB Melvin Gordon did have a rushing TD which is a positive for San Diego.
Redskins 27-10 over the Raiders: It was a disastrous game for Oakland. 1. QB Derek Carr threw for just 118 with a TD and two interceptions, with the one TD going to TE Jared Cook who was the leading receiver at 43 yards. RB Marshawn Lynch was held to 18 rushing yards as the leading rusher and both stars WRS Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree finished with 13 combined yards. 2. While on the other side of the field Washington’s QB Kirk Cousins had 3 TD passes with no picks. RB Chris Thompson starting in place of the injured Rob Kelly was the leading receiver with 150 yards with 1 TD, while back TE Vernon Davis if you’re wondering if he is still playing caught one of the other TD passes in place of injured TE Jordan Reed.
Cowboys 28-17 over the Cardinals: 1. The Cowboys looked like themselves on offense again. QB Dak Prescott had 2 passing TDS with no interceptions and had a rushing TD as well. RB Ezekiel Elliot had a rushing TD too. 2. Now QB Carson Palmer did look good with no interceptions and 2 passing TDS with 325 passing yards with one of his TD passes going to WR Larry Fitzgerald who had 149 receiving yards. But when you’re down 21-14 late in the game it is very hard to come back, and your offensive line isn’t protecting with six sacks, plus their supposed defense is letting the Cowboys control the clock with the run game.
