NFL Wildcard Recap 2017-2018:

Titans 21-21 over the Chiefs: Everything was going right for Kansas City as they took a 21-3 lead over the Titans. They had a rushing TD by their rookie star RB Kareem Hunt while QB Alex Smith threw 2 TD passes with one going to TE Travis Kelce. While Tennessee had a fumble and interception so things weren’t looking good. Even when they scored they missed two 2 point conversion attempts and they barely hung on to win in the upset. QB Marcus Mariota overcame those early turnovers with 2 TD passes with one going to WR Eric Decker, and the other to him when he threw the ball that got batted back to him while catching the ricochet running into the end zone. RB Derek Henry made up for his fumble by having a rushing TD as well.

Falcons 26-13 over the Rams: Atlanta took a 13-10 lead and never looked back after they recovered a muffed punt return to set them up for an easy field goal. The Rams finally woke up in end of the 2nd quarter with 10 points, but the Falcons put them away with another run of their own going 13-3 the rest of the way, one of them being a TD to WR Julio Jones. It wasn’t a big upset since the Falcons were in the Super Bowl last year with the more experienced QB on their team, but the Rams did have the better overall team with the better season but better luck next year LA.

Jaguars 10-3 over the Bills: Both teams no one thought would make playoffs but it was their defense that led them to the playoffs. Defense was the theme as the Bills caused three fumbles and Jaguars caused one. But the key was Jacksonville’s defense picking off both Bills QBs, and QB Blake Bortles not throwing an interception (when he doesn’t throw one they win) but throwing a 4th and 1 clutch TD pass.

Saints 31-26 over the Panthers: It was a battle of division rivals and top QBS in the league and they both did their parts since both had 2 TD passes. The Saints had TD catches by a former Panther in WR Ted Ginn JR. The Saints took a 21-9 lead at halftime and didn’t look back as they scored two rushing TDs with one being the icing on the cake by rookie phenom RB Alvin Kamara in the fourth quarter. Despite QB Drew Brees’ interception and a fumble by WR Brandon Coleman they had such a huge lead. Despite QB Cam Newton’s best efforts with both of his 2 TD passes coming in the 4th quarter, it wasn’t enough and it didn’t help as they missed a field goal as well. (Kicker Graham Gano kept them in the game with 12 points before Newton woke up). The game ended a sack on 4th down to show the world that the defense is one of the reasons the Saints are back.
