NFL Recap Week 2 2019:

Buccaneers 20-14 over the Panthers: Tampa Bay held Carolina to 0 TDs by preventing RB Christian McCaffrey from doing anything as he finished with less than 60 yards total rushing or receiving. While QB Cam Newton was sacked three times and his team fumbled the ball three times. QB Jameis Winston did enough to win this game by not turning the ball over and throwing 1 TD pass to WR Chris Godwin who had 121 yards receiving. Also the Buccaneers out ran the Panthers 100-39 with RB Peyton Barber leading the way with 82 yards and a rushing TD.

Cowboys 31-21 over Washington: Despite an early TD by Washington and an interception by QB Dak Prescott it was all Cowboys the rest of the way as Prescott had 3 TD passes. RB Ezekiel Elliott had 111 yards rushing with a rushing TD. After being a healthy scratch from game 1 RB Adrian Peterson scored that 1st TD for Washington.

Colts 19-17 over the Titans: In a messy divisional game the Colts came out on top as QB Jacoby Brissett had a better day than QB Marcus Mariota 3 TDs to 1 but both were sloppy. Brissett had an interception and a fumble while Mariota had an interception and a fumble. Both teams’ kickers were not on point as Tennessee missed a field goal and Indianapolis missed two extra points.

Seahawks 28-26 over the Steelers: It was admirable of 2nd year QB Mason Rudolph to lead his team to 2 TDs late to TE Vance McDonald after their starting QB Ben Roethlisberger and starting RB James Conner left the game with injuries, but he was facing a better/more proven QB in the clutch in QB Russell Wilson. Wilson had 3 TD passes and 300 yards passing plus his backup RB Rashaad Penny added a rushing TD.

Bills 28-14 over the Giants: Despite 107 yards rushing with a rushing TD for RB Saquon Barkley it wasn’t enough as the Bills had three of their own rushing TDs. QB Josh Allen had a passing TD along with one of those rushing TDs, plus RB Frank Gore had one of those while leading his team in rushing. Rookie RB Devin Singletary had the other one, his first career NFL TD. Again Eli Manning did have a TD pass but he also had two interceptions and a fumble plus their kicker missed a field goal.

Patriots 43-0 over the Dolphins: Miami had 7 punts, a turnover on downs and four combined interceptions by both QBs (two were returned for TDs), plus they were sacked 7 times. For New England QB Tom Brady had 2 TD passes and a rushing TD! WR Antonio Brown in his debut caught a TD pass/led the team in receiving yards and RB James White had the other passing TD, plus RB Sony Michel added a rushing TD. Michel did lose a fumble so that plus a missed field goal and two extra points, the Patriots could have at least scored 5 more points.

Texans 13-12 over the Jaguars: Houston won which isn’t the surprise it is how they won as QB Deshaun Watson had 0 passing TDs and less than 160 yards passing with two fumbles. He did have a rushing TD but rookie QB Gardner Minshew II had a passing TD and 54 yards more passing but the stats are too similar, especially because Minshew had 3 fumbles too. It was only won because Jacksonville missed a two point conversion attempt at the end.

Packers 21-16 over the Vikings: Despite RB Dalvin Cook running all over Green Bay for 154 yards and having a rushing TD it wasn’t the Vikings’ day. QB Kirk Cousins had 1 TD pass but had two interceptions, two fumbles, his receivers had two fumbles and his kicker missed a field goal and an extra point. QB Aaron Rodgers didn’t have to do much as he had 2 TD passes and his RB Aaron Jones had 116 yards rushing with a rushing TD.

Lions 13-10 over the Chargers: It was an ugly game that someone had to win as QB Phillip Rivers had 0 TDs with an interception and his kicker missed two field goals, QB Matthew Stafford did have 2 TD passes with one being the go ahead TD, but he did have two interceptions while their kicker missed a field goal and an extra point. LA RB Austin Ekeler again shined in absence of RB Melvin Gordon with a rushing TD their only TD, with 133 total all-purpose yards.

49ers 41-17 over the Bengals: Outside of one interception QB Jimmy Garoppolo rebounded nice after a bad 1st week with 3 TD passes, but it was his stable of RBs that stole the show with starting RB Tevin Coleman injured. Matt Breida had 121 yards rushing, Raheem Mostert had 151 yards total all-purpose yards with a receiving TD and Jeff Wilson had 2 rushing TDs. QB Andy Dalton did his best to compete despite starting RB Joe Mixon not at full strength after being injured in week 1 with 2 passing TDs, but he fumbled and threw an interception plus his kicker missed a field goal.

Ravens 23-17 over the Cardinals: QB Lamar Jackson didn’t have the game he had in Miami, but he did have 2 TD passes and led his team in rushing with 120 yards rushing, as they cruised for most of the game with field goals in the 2nd half. Rookie QB Kyle Murray did his best to lead his team back, but it wasn’t enough despite leading his team down the field with a successful two-point conversion in the 4th after a rushing TD by RB David Johnson.

Chiefs 28-10 over the Raiders: QB Patrick Mahomes and co. did not put up as many points as they did last week but he threw 4 TD passes with two going to WR Demarcus Robinson who had 172 yards receiving filling in for injured WR Tyreek Hill. Plus TE Travis Kelce caught one of those TD passes and had 107 yards receiving. All four of those TDs were in the 2nd quarter while QB Derek Carr didn’t have the same kind of performance he had last week he as he only threw 1 TD pass with two interceptions, and he had one of his team’s two fumbles plus his team scored all their points in the 1st quarter.

Bears 16-14 over the Broncos: This contest appeared to be a field goal game. Then the Bears struck with a rushing TD by David Montgomery, his 1st career TD. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception in the 4th quarter one of a few that could have been picked off. The next possession however he led his team down the field for a potential game winning TD with a two-point conversion (that was originally an extra point attempt but the Bears were off sides) both to WR Emmanuel Sanders. Then QB Mitchell Trubisky who hadn’t done anything all game drove his team down the field and completed the pass on 4th down to setup the game winning field goal by Eddie Pineiro, who made three total.

Rams 27-9 over the Saints: It wasn’t the Saints day as QB Drew Brees had an interception and left the game with a thumb injury, while QB Teddy Bridgewater had a fumble plus the Rams held RB Alvin Kamara to only 45 yards rushing. The Rams didn’t have to do that much as QB Jared Goff threw 1 TD pass to WR Brandin Cooks and rushed for a TD but fumbled it once, while RB Todd Gurley had a rushing TD.

Falcons 24-20 over the Eagles: QB Carson Wentz did all he could despite two interceptions, missing his other TE to injury leaving them with one TE in Zach Ertz. WRs Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson got hurt, himself getting hit in the ribs and being evaluated for a concussion and his other WR Nelson Agholor leaving the game for some time to an injury as well. He did have a rushing TD and a passing TD for all his efforts but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons passing attack had a huge game. QB Matt Ryan did have three interceptions but he also threw 3 TD passes two of them going to WR Julio Jones who had the go ahead TD as he ran 54 yards on 4th down to seal it for Atlanta.

Browns 23-3 over the Jets: It was all Browns! WR Odell Beckham Jr. balled out in his “return to New York” with 161 yards receiving and caught QB Baker Mayfield’s lone TD pass. RB Nick Chubb had a rushing TD. It was going to be an uphill battle for the Jets without QB Sam Darnold who was out with mono, WR Quincy Enunwa out for the year, RB Bilal Powell, four defensive players including CJ Mosley and Quinnen Williams. Plus Le’Veon having an MRI this past week on his shoulder, but backup QB Trevor Siemian had an ankle injury in the 1st half to make matters worse. They relied on a 3rd string QB and were missing key players on both sides of the ball so it could have been worse than it was for the Jets.
