Titans 30-9 over the Jaguars: Derrick Henry ran all over the Jaguars defense for 238 yards(Oilers/Titans record) rushing with 4 rushing TDs. It didn’t matter that QB Marcus Mariota had no TDs and an interception because of Henry’s huge day with included a 99 yard rushing TD. The Jaguars did manage one TD but only scored again on a safety.
Jets 27-23 over the Bills: It was a three turnover game for both sides but the difference was the missed field goal by Buffalo. QB Sam Darnold returned with a TD pass but had an interception and his 3rd string RB Elijah McGuire had a rushing TD. While the other rookie QB Josh Allen had all three of his team’s turnovers with no passing TDs but had a rushing TD with 101 yards. His 3rd string RB Isaiah McKenzie had a rushing TD too. It was Allen’s 3rd straight game with 90+ yards rushing.
Browns 26-20 over the Panthers: In one of three upsets of the week: QB Baker Mayfield outplayed QB Cam Newton. Newton had no TD passes with an interception while Mayfield had 1 TD pass with no interceptions. While RB Nick Chubb added another rushing TD and WR Jarvis Landry caught that TD pass but also had a rushing a TD. Like always this season RB Christian McCaffery had a huge game for Carolina, this time with 2 rushing TDs. Cleveland won two consecutive games at home since 2014.
Packers 34-20 over the Falcons: Packers are 1-0 after firing head coach Mike McCarthy behind QB Aaron Rodger’s 2 TD passes to his usual receivers Davante Adams and Randal Cobb. Also RB Aaron Jones had another rushing TD his 5th straight game with one. It wasn’t a bad day for Atlanta as QB Matt Ryan had 3 TD passes with 2 going to WR Julio Jones but it wasn’t enough as Green Bay was up 34-7 entering the 4th. Plus, Ryan had his 1 interception returned for a TD.
Colts 24-21 over the Texans: It was back and forth battle between divisional rivals but the difference was the Colts one field goal. QB Andrew Luck had 2 TD passes with one going to Eric Ebron, his 12th TD this season the most by a TE in Colts history, plus RB Marlon Mack had a rushing TD. For Houston QB DeShaun Watson had 1 TD with both RBS having a rushing TD in Alfred Blue and Lamar Miller.
Chiefs 27-24 over the Ravens: This time QB Lamar Jackson threw 2 TD passes instead of having rushing TDs but it wasn’t enough as Kansas City outlasted them in OT after KC missed a field goal in regulation. QB Patrick Mahomes had 2 TD passes as well but it was RB Damien Williams who was the star of the game by catching one of those TD passes and rushing for a TD too. Chiefs clinched a playoff berth.
Dolphins 34-33 over the Patriots: Both QBS Tom Brady and Ryan Tannehill threw 3 TD passes with no interceptions but it was a revenge game for Miami’s RB Brandon Bolden who had 2 rushing TDs VS his former team New England. Kicker Stephen Gostkowski surprisingly missed a field goal and an extra point attempt which came back to bite them in the end. RB Kenyan Drake scored the game winning TD on one of those final seconds with a lateral game where it usually doesn’t work and this time it did. This was their 5th out of 6th win at home VS New England.
Saints 28-14 over the Buccaneers: It was odd that QB James Winston had more TD passes 2 to 1 and plus QB Drew Brees had an interception with a fumble like Winston. But Brees had a rushing TD with RB Mark Ingram. What killed Tampa Bay was their kicker missing both field goals. Saints have clinched the NFC South.
Giants 40-16 over Washington: Without WR Odell Beckham JR the Giants put up 40 points led by QB Eli Manning’s 3 TD passes. RB Saquon Barkley added 170 yards rushing with a rushing TD (the most TDs by a rookie in a season in Giants history). Washington was down 40-0 entering the 4th quarter as QB Mark Sanchez had 0 TD passes and 2 interceptions with one being returned for a TD. He was benched for Josh Johnson a journeymen backup QB who hadn’t started a game in years but threw 1 TD pass and had a rushing TD (two 2-pt conversions). He was about to start in the new football league called the Allegiance of American Football.
Chargers 26-21 over Bengals: RB Joe Mixon had 111 yards rushing with a rushing TD and QB Jeff Driskel had 1 passing TD but they failed to make their two point attempts when they scored. While QB Phillip Rivers had 1 TD pass and RB Austin Eckeler had a rushing TD. Their kicker accounted for 16 points in the game; usually kicking has been an issue for the Chargers but it came through in this close game.
49ers 20-14 over the Broncos: TE George Kittle had a huge game of 250 yards receiving(2nd most receiving yards by a TE in a single game since 1970) while also catching a TD pass by QB Nick Mullens who had 2 TD passes on the day. They led 20-0 entering the 2nd half and QB Case Keenum courageously led this team in the 2nd half with a TD pass and RB Phillip Lindsay had a rushing TD but it wasn’t enough as his team had four fumbles too.
Lions 17-3 over the Cardinals: Two fumbles, a missed field goal and an interception by Arizona the opposing team Detroit didn’t have to do much to win this ugly game. QB Matthew Stafford didn’t have a TD pass and his team fumbled twice, but RB Zach Zenner had a rushing TD and CB Darius Slay returned that Josh Rosen interception for a TD.
Cowboys 29-23 over the Eagles: Despite a 3 TD game with no interceptions for QB Carson Wentz compared to QB Dak Prescott’s 3 TD game but with two interceptions Dallas came out on top in OT. WR Amari Cooper caught all 3 TD passes from Prescott with one being the winner in OT and finished with 217 yards receiving. The Eagles missed an extra point which came back to haunt them.
Raiders 24-21 over the Steelers: Despite a 2 TD game by QB Ben Roethlisberger without a turnover with both of those TDs going to WR Juju Smith Schuster for 130 yards, they got upset by Oakland. Even their 4th string RB Steven Ridley got a rushing TD in place of an injured James Connor. It really hurt them that their kicker missed two field goals. QB Derek Carr led his team from behind with 2 TD passes in the 2nd half to snatch the game from the Steelers late. It was his 8th straight game without an interception. The Raiders blocked the potential game tying field goal.
Bears 15-6 over the Rams: The Bears held the high octane offensive Rams to field goals only by picking off QB Jared Goff four times, forced him to fumble and holding RB Todd Gurley to 28 yards)! QB Mitchell Trubisky wasn’t that great either with three interceptions but had the only TD pass of the game. The Bears in this upset did also have a safety on the Rams.
Seahawks 21-7 over the Vikings: Despite QB Kirk Cousins having a TD pass compared to QB Russell Wilson who had 0 TDs with an interception, it was Cousins who fumbled the ball away for a defensive TD which cost them the game.
