Patriots 19-14 over the Buccaneers: It was a game of kickers: Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski was the hero saving QB Tom Brady’s butt in the game by kicking four field goals. On the other side of the ball the Buccaneers lost because of their kicker missing three field goals. 1. Both QBS threw for over 300 yards (Brady 303 & Jameis Winston 334) and had TD passes but Brady threw an interception while fumbling it once and Winston fumbled it twice. 2. RB Doug Martin got a rushing TD in his first game back from suspension.
Bengals 20-16 over the Bills: It was messy game for both sides as both QBS threw interceptions (Andy Dalton 2 and Tyrod Taylor 1) and star players with fumbles (RB LeSean McCoy and WR AJ Green). 1. Green had a great day with 189 yards receiving catching Dalton’s only TD pass, and rookie RB Joe Mixon had his first career TD.
Jets 17-14 over the Browns: The Jets have won 3 games and Browns are 0-5, which one is more of a surprise? New York having 3 since we thought they were tanking. 1. The Jets defense harassed the Browns QB Deshone Kizer by forcing him to fumble and intercepting him. This led to his benching, but backup QB Kevin Hogan was also intercepted. 2. The difference in this game was the Jets kicker making his one field goal and the Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez missing both of his field goals. 3. TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins had first TD of the year after missing the first couple games due to suspension.
Panthers 27-24 over the Lions: It was a high scoring affair each QB had a great game but QB Matt Stafford’s two crucial fumbles came back to haunt them, losing those scoring chances in such a close game. 1. QB Cam Newton had 3 TD passes with one going to RB Christian McCaffery who caught his first career TD, and TE Ed Dickson had a huge game with 125 yards receiving. 2. Stafford threw 2 TD passes both going to TE David Fells.
Colts 26-23 over the 49ers: Well it was a battle of old kickers with total of 7 field goals (3 Robbie Gould & four Adam Vinatieri). Vinatieri and Colts came out on top with the game winning field goal in overtime. This was in despite of RB Frank Gore fumbling it twice and QB Jacoby Brissett throwing a crucial interception in overtime, wasting a 117 receiving yard game from WR TY Hilton. 1. QB Brian Hoyer threw 2 TD passes for over 350 yards.
Dolphins 16-10 over the Titans: It was a sloppy game for both as QB Jay Cutler threw an interception while his RB Jay Ajayi had a fumble. Titans RB DeMarco Murray had a fumble while his QB Matt Cassel’s (playing in place of injured Marcus Mariota) fumble was the key play of the game, as it was returned for a TD. 1. Bad news for the Dolphins, WR DeVante Parker left the game with an ankle injury. 2. TE Phillip Supernaw caught his first career TD the only TD in the game for Tennessee.
Changers 27-22 over the Giants: The Giants started off the game with a safety but ended it on a QB Eli Manning interception after blowing another lead, along with 2 fumbles. 1. WR Odell Beckham Jr had a TD but was carted off with a broken ankle. New York had a rushing TD with Orleans Darkwa. 2. Meanwhile, on the other side QB Phillip Rivers again was down early and had to lead his team to a comeback. Two of his 3 TD passes went to RB Melvin Gordon who also rushed for 105 yards. WRS Odell Beckham JR and Brandon Marshall are both out for the year with surgeries on their ankles.
Eagles 34-7 over the Cardinals: The Eagles dominated the Cardinals only allowing a TD and they even blocked a field goal. 1. QB Carson Wentz despite an interception had 304 yards and 4 TD passes going to TES Zach Ertz, Trey Burton, WRS Nelson Agholor and Torrey Smith. WR Larry FitzGerald now has 200 straight games with a reception only behind TE Tony Gonzalez and WR Jerry Rice.
Jaguars 30-7 over the Steelers: It was the RB Leonard Fournette, and interceptions being returned two times for a TD show. 1. Fournette had two rushing TDS. 2. Both QBs had no TD passes with a combined 6 interceptions (5 for Ben Roethlisberger! & 1 for Blake Bortles).
Seahawks 16-10 over the Rams: It wasn’t a pretty game with QB Russell Wilson having an interception and QB Jared Goff having two interceptions no TDS and a fumble. WR Tavon Austin had a rushing TD but fumbled it and so did RB Todd Gurley. 1. QB Russell Wilson had one TD pass to TE Jimmy Graham. 2. It was a four field goal game with Greg Zuerlein missing one, but it was Blair Walsh who was a perfect 3-3.
Ravens 30-17 over the Raiders: QB Joe Flacco had no interceptions but also had no TDS. It was a rushing TD, fumble recovery TD and field goal game for Baltimore. 1. In Derek Carr’s absence EJ Manuel did pretty well with one TD pass to WR Michael Crabtree. RB Marshawn Lynch had a rushing TD. But the key was TE Jared Cook’s fumble that led to a TD and Justin Tucker’s two field goals.
Packers 35-31 over the Cowboys: We expected a shootout between two talented offenses and we got it, but with the veteran QB’s team coming out ahead late. 1. QB Aaron Rodgers had 3 TD passes with two of them going to WR Davante Adams. While backup RB Aaron Jones had 125 yards rushing with a TD in place of injured RB Ty Montgomery who has broken ribs. The Packers defense even had a good game despite giving up 31 points. They forced a fumble and picked off QB Dak Prescott and returned it for a TD. If they didn’t win they would have blamed it on kicker Mason Crosby who missed two extra points. 2. Prescott threw 3 TD passes as well with a rushing TD of his own, and two of his TD passes went to WR Cole Beasley.
Chiefs 42-34 over the Texans: For two teams that are known for defense this was a high scoring affair with five field goals from Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker. 1. RB Charcandrick West had two receiving TDS while WR Tyreek Hill had an 82 yard punt return TD. QB Alex Smith had 324 yards and threw 3 TD passes. 2. QB DeShaun Watson had 5 TD passes with 3 of them going to WR DeAndre Hopkins and the other two going to WR Will Fuller V. Texans have lost JJ Watt for the year to season ending surgery for a fracture in his leg.
Vikings 20-17 over the Bears: It was a messy game that only saw 5 points combined scored in the first half: a safety for the Bears and field goal for the Vikings. 1. The Vikings did get QB Sam Bradford back from injury but got hurt and QB Case Keenum came in relief to throw a TD pass to TE Kyle Rudolph. Though he had a fumble 3rd string RB Jerick McKinnon swiped the game from RB Latavius Murray with 146 purpose all-total yards and a rushing TD. 2. While rookie QB Mitch Trubisky in his debut did fumble the ball and throw an interception but he threw a TD pass to TE Zach Miller. While the other TD was on a trick play when punter Pat O’Donnell threw a fake punt pass to RB Benny Cunningham for the TD. But the Vikings made a game winning field goal in the closing seconds to seal the game.
