Bengals 22-7 over the Dolphins: 1. WR AJ Green was finally able to break free from top defenses in first three weeks to run all over for 173 yards and a TD. 2. The thing we saw was Cincinnati wasn’t able to score more than 1 TD since the rest were field goals by kicker Mike Nugent, 5 of them to be exact. 3. The Dolphins again couldn’t get a flow to the game outside one TD, which means we need to start questioning if QB Ryan Tannehill is actually a good starting QB and if Miami may need to draft a QB next year.
Jaguars 30-27 over the Colts: In London, where it seems the Jaguars are the only team to play there every year; took a huge lead over the Colts and held it despite QB Andrew Luck’s comeback attempt with 2 TDS. 1. Again, the Colts defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed -30 points, 3 TDS two passing and one rushing from QB Blake Bortles with stud receivers Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson scoring. 2. Its back to back weeks that RB Frank Gore scored which is an issue for Indianapolis, who haven’t been relying on running back plays. 3. Kicker Adam Vinatieri the ageless wonder at 43 kicked 49 yard and 53 yard field goals, he might play till 50. 4. With the team giving up all these points they again have to ask Luck to put his team on his back. Yes he threw 2TD passes but also threw 2 picks meaning he was forcing the issue when you are down and need to save clock time by throwing it.
Texans 27-20 over the Titans: 1. Do we need to say it or has it already been said? Will Fuller is the real deal at WR: He returned a punt for the go ahead touchdown and had 81 yards and a TD. He has two 100 yard games and 2 TDS in four games. 2. The defense without JJ Watt prevented QB Marcus Mariota from finding a rhythm as they picked him off once and sacked him for a six yard loss to end a drive. 3. Again, Lamar Miller puts up great all purpose yards to help keep the opposing team off the field but it didn’t help that QB Brock Osweiler threw two picks when leading, just play it safe hand the ball off or don’t force throws. 4. In a game full of field goals and a punt return touchdown, what got lost again is DeMarco Murray proving he is a top RB as he had 2 TDS Sunday with a total of 3 so far for the season.
Redskins 31-20 over the Browns: 1. Being 3-14 in scoring in the red zone they took advantage of it by having QB Kirk throw 3 TDS there to TE Jordan Reed for two of them and the other to RB Chris Thompson, while starting RB Matt Jones had 100+ yards and 1 TD. 2. The Browns actually have some talent on their team in RB Isaiah Crowell who had over 120 all purpose yards and 1 TD to add to WR Terrelle Pryor’s TD. 3. If it wasn’t for Cleveland’s kicker Cody Parkey it would have been a lot worse, as he had kicks of 45 and 51 yards.
Seahawks 27-17 over the Jets: 1. After 6 interceptions last week he had three this week, Richard Sherman had two interceptions and Earl Thomas one, as Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets couldn’t get much going against the NFL’s No. 1-ranked defense. Why are you airing it out when you have one of the best dual threat RBs in football in Matt Forte? Puzzling. 2. Also, QB Russell Wilson didn’t look hobbled with 300+ yards and 3 TDS. 3. TE Jimmy Graham has looked good with back to back 100+ yard game. 4. There weren’t any rushing TDS despite having RBS Christine Michael and CJ Spiller scoring as they were passing TDS. Now the fans of the NFL know where Spiller went after the Saints cut him. 5. The lone bright spot for the Jets was that WR Brandon Marshall scored his first TD of the year.
Bills 16-0 over the Patriots: One of the three biggest surprises shouldn’t be a surprise. 1. The Pats were on their 3rd string QB with a bum thumb and the Bills sacked Jacoby Brissett three times. 2. After managing to reach the red zone with four drives in their first three games, the Bills did it on their first two series Sunday. On their first possession the drive ended in QB Tyrod Taylor’s touchdown strike to RB Lesean McCoy. Outside of that it was a field goal game with 3 of them. Taylor looked good enough to win a defensive and field goal game. McCoy again had a good game over 100 yards in all purpose yards and a TD.
Falcons 48-33 over the Panthers: 1. QB Matt Ryan shredded Carolina’s defense, passing for a team-record 503 yards and four touchdowns, WR Julio Jones had 12 receptions for a Falcons-record 300 yards in what was a shootout kind of game. Those totals were the most ever allowed by Carolina. 2. Despite QB Cam Newton leaving the game with a concussion, they had 3 TDS from QB Derek Anderson who came in for Newton to tight end Greg Olsen and WR Corey Brown, but he had two picks and the run game didn’t show up. 3. The Carolina defense was the reason they lost despite getting an interception returned for a TD. 4. Despite those 300 yards by Jones he only had 1 TD as 3 other caught a TD, and RB Devonta Freeman had a rushing TD to go along with the Falcons who had their own interception returned for a TD.
Raiders 28-27 over the Ravens: 1. QB Derrick Car threw 4 TD passes 3 going to WR Michael Crabtree. Carr gave them the lead and led a comeback after they were down showing the offense again is still the better unit. 2. The Ravens let themselves lose this game with 5 offensive holding calls and let in two sacks, one led to a fumble. You can’t blame QB Joe Flacco who led them back from a huge deficit. 3. RB Terrence West a former Brown had over 100 yards and a TD, he is the lead back since Buck Allen is hurt and they just cut Justin Forsett. Also, Steve Smith is healthy and back as he led the team in receiving yards and had 1 TD.
Bears 17-14 over the Lions: The Bears won their first game. 1. The offense finally showed up as QB Brian Hoyer threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns, rookie RB Jordan Howard had over 100 rushing yards, WR Eddie Royal had 1TD and 100+ yards, and TE Zach Miller had another TD. 2. The Bears only gave up 2 field goals and a punt return so it seemed both sides of the field played well for the Bears since the Lions offense has been on fire. They picked off QB Matthew Stafford two times.
Broncos 27-7 over the Buccaneers: Well again the Broncos defense is showing its no fluke from their historic season with another win shutting down the team’s offense only allowing one TD. 1. After a historically good day QB Trevor Siemian left the game with an injury having throwing a TD pass to WR Demaryius Thomas. He was replaced by rookie Paxton Lynch who threw a TD pass to WR Emmanuel Sanders. Showing that because the defense had set the tone with interceptions (2) and one forced fumble Lynch didn’t have to try to win the game since they were up and RB CJ Anderson had also scored a TD. 2. Unfortunately for QB Jameis Winston who faced another tough defense that limited him to a rushing TD and two interceptions. But you can’t blame him when his defense gives up 20+ and expect him to bring them back against the vaunted defense of the Broncos.
Rams 17-13 over the Cardinals: 1. After being embarrassed in game 1 the Rams offense has looked like it has clicked. QB Case Keenum threw 2 TD passes to their #1 WR Brian Quick. 2. The vaunted Rams defense also showed up picking off QB Carson Palmer once and 2 times off his backup Drew Stanton who came in for Palmer as he left the game concussed to go along with two forced fumbles. 3. Something is up with the Super Bowl contenders. Their offense hasn’t looked great despite RB David Johnson and WR John Brown having good games yard wise. Could Palmer be aging before our eyes? It couldn’t be coaching since Bruce Arians is one of the best coaches. Maybe the stress the offense is putting on the defense is making the defense press? 4. Can the Rams be this good?
Saints 35-34 over the Chargers: 1. QB Drew Brees again had to carry his team since the defense had them down early. He had two TD passes in the final four minutes while QB Phillip Rivers also threw for 2 TDS so the offense was there. 2. Both lead running backs had good games, Mark Ingram had 1 TD and Melvin Gordon had 2 proving his rookie season is behind him as he has 6 total TDS in four games. 3. The Saints defense showed up this time with 2 forced fumbles and one interception. 4. Who knew FB John Kuhn was still in the league? He had two rushing TDS and a receiving one.
Cowboys 24-17 over the 49ers: 1. The Dallas offense is the reason they won again. The two rookies are clicking: RB Ezekiel Elliot had over 130 yards and one TD, and QB Dak Prescott threw 2 TD passes to lead the way. This was without lead WR Dez Bryant who was out with an injury. 2. As usual RB Carlos Hyde was the lone bright spot with his one TD on offense for the 49ers since QB Blaine Gabbert was inconsistent with one TD and one interception.
Steelers 43-14 over the Chiefs: After being blown out and upset by the upstart Eagles last week the Steelers took it out on the supposed good defense in Kansas City. 1. The return of suspendered RB Le’Von Bell had 170+ all purpose yards. While Ben Roethlisberger was back to his old self with 5 TD passes, 2 to WR Antonio Brown and TD’s to WRS Darrius Heyward-Bay and Marcus Wheaton and TE Jesse James. Even RB DeAngelo Williams had a rushing TD. 2. The Chiefs didn’t even force one turnover when they had 8 last week. 3. The lone bright spot was RB Jamal Charles who was back after surgery on his knee after missing the first 3 games.
Vikings 24-10 over the Giants: 1. The Vikings defense has now beaten 3 Super Bowl winning QBs in three consecutive weeks in Aaron Rodgers, Cam Newton and now Eli Manning who was picked off once along with a fumble that led to 10 points. 2. QB Sam Bradford threw a TD pass to TE Kyle Rudolph for the 3rd week in a row and had no turnovers. 3. Even the 2 RBS filling in for the injured Adrian Peterson each scored a TD, Jarick McKinnon and Matt Asiata. 4. Lone bright spot for the Giants in RB Orleans Darkwa who scored a TD.
Bye Week for Packers and Eagles.
