Jets 37-31 over the Bills: In a surprisingly high scoring game we saw two teams with good defense let up 30+ each. 1. The Bills are still dysfunctional, they put up 31 points and Tyrod Taylor put up 3 TDS and almost 300 yards since they fired the offensive coordinator Greg Roman. 2. We have learned in these 2 weeks it’s the defense which is the problem, which is funny since Rex Ryan and his brother Rob specialize in defense. 3. With Roman being fired they can’t fire Rex this year because they wouldn’t make his brother the interim. Which makes us learn Rex is smarter then we think. 4. The Jets offense looks good enough to make them a wildcard team this year: Ryan Fitzpatrick had 374 yards and 1 TD while Matt Forte had 3 TDS to go with the receiving tandem of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker that combined for 227 yards and 1 TD.
Rams 9-3 over the Seahawks: After saying how dysfunctional the Rams were vs. the 49ers, they showed how good the vaunted defense was by only giving up a field goal to Seattle. 1. The Rams can look like crap vs. a bad team but can play up to the competition and even win vs. a Super Bowl contender in Seattle because divisional games are toss ups for teams .500 or better. 2. I learned that the Seahawks have only scored 1TD so far that the offense looks horrible outside of the game winning drive by Russell Wilson in game 1. 3. The offensive line isn’t protecting him which would be fine if he wasn’t still hobbled by Ndamukong Suh stepping on his leg in week 1 and that he lost his starting RB Thomas Rawls during the game.
Ravens 25-20 over the Browns: Well, the Browns out Browned themselves. 1. QB Josh McCown hurt his shoulder but still played the whole game and eventually threw an interception at the end of the game to seal the game so they will have to now turn to rookie Cody Kessler next week. 2. The Ravens defense looks like it used to with back to back weeks of giving up 20 points or less. 3. I learned that Terrelle Pryor is the #1 WR for Cleveland but he nullified a 1st down late in the game because of a taunting penalty. So it was all hands on deck for the Browns to blow a close game.
Vikings 17-14 over the Packers: Yes the Vikings defense is for real a top 5 defense. 1. With the way Bradford played without RB Adrian Peterson it looked like this team can be a Super Bowl contender. 2. We reaffirmed that the Packer defense isn’t that great overall as a team but we need to calm down, the Packers aren’t going to win every game especially vs. a good team like Minnesota and usually divisional rivals split games so they will be ok. Remember, they have QB Aaron Rodgers.
Broncos 34-20 over the Colts: Well what did I say before? 1. The Colts defense and team is flawed around QB Andrew Luck and he faced an elite defense this week so he couldn’t put up his usual numbers. 2. I was wrong I thought the Broncos would be a 9-7 or even .500 because of the QB/RB play but RB CJ Anderson scored a TD again. 3. That the defense hasn’t lost a step even after losing some key players on defense as they had 2 defensive TDS so it looks like the defense can still control games and make two QBS look average in Luck and Cam Newton.
Falcons 35-28 over the Raiders: 1. There is a reason why most don’t go for it on 4th down or go for 2 points because its hard and most teams don’t convert, so after going for 2 last week and scoring a TD on 4th down earlier on the Raiders went for it on 4th and didn’t convert at the end of the game, so you can look like a genius one week and an idiot another. 2. Both QBs looked great in this offensive shootout both having 3 TDS meaning both teams can hang in the game offensively but we were able to reaffirm that the defense is what has to be fixed if Oakland wants to be a wild card team.
Chargers 38-14 over the Jaguars: 1. This is what the Chargers offense should look like with QB Philip Rivers throwing 4 TD passes 2 of them to WR Travis Benjamin. 2. That RB Melvin Gordon can be a starting RB in this league after he put up 100+ yards with a TD and will have to keep it up as RB Danny Woodhead tore his ACL is out for the year. 3. It looks like the coaching not the talent on Jacksonville, because QB Blake Bortles could keep up with Aaron Rodgers in a close game but throws 2 picks to the Chargers D while looking inconsistent which is where coaching should help. 4. I learned that Marcedes Lewis is still in the league as he scored one of the TDs for the Jaguars.
Cardinals 40-7 over the Buccaneers: 1. We all learned that after blowing a game you should have a won with a good head coach and veteran team they will come out taking no prisoners as they scored 40 points. 2. QB Jameis Winston faced a tough defense on a mission and threw 4 picks with one being returned for a TD. It’s not time to give up on him just but hold off on crowning him as he has to beat good teams first. 3. That Arizona has a balanced offensive attack as all of QB Carson Palmer’s TD passes were to all of his wide receivers and sat out the 4th because they were up so much while RB David Johnson had 140+ yards and RB Chris Johnson had a TD. 4. We have no idea why head coach Dirk Koetter let Winston stay out there in a blow out and take all the hits/punishment and let him attempt 51 throws when he had 4 picks.
Titans 16-15 over the Lions: 1. The Lions learned that anyone can put up numbers on the Colts D and that the Titans are pretty good as they stopped Adrian Peterson and his offensive teammates from having impact as they saw this week they only put up 15. 2. It’s not like QB Matt Stafford didn’t try to lead his team down the field as he almost led his team in rushing yards, it’s just he threw an interception to seal it and is defense let him down. 3. QB Marcus Mariota led his team to win with two 4th quarter TDS proving he can be a leader in this league. 4. I learned WR Andre Johnson is still in the league had scored the game winning TD.
Panthers 46-27 over the 49ers: The Panthers came back after losing to the Broncos two times. 1. All we learned was the Panthers can win a game where they turned over the ball four times and they can beat a bad team by blowing them out. 2. QB Blaine Gabbert looks like a competent enough starting QB, maybe Chip Kelly was all he needed.
Texans 19-12 over the Chiefs: In a closely contested game between two good defenses it was really a field goal game. 1. The Texans got revenge over the Chiefs after being blown out in the playoffs. 2. QB Brock Osweiler beat up a bad Bears defense in week 1 but he faced even a tougher defense which picked him off two times and that he’s still a work in progress. 3. The Chiefs after an improbable comeback in week 1 fell over themselves by fumbling the ball three times allowing the Texans to take advantage of them.
Patriots 31-24 over the Dolphins: 1. It looks like QB Jimmy Garoppolo is the real deal after seeing two games worth but he left the game after putting up 3 TDS when he hurt his shoulder posing the question who’s going to QB for them Thursday night, rookie QB Jacoby Brissett had a TD too though. 2. Bill Belichick keeps looking like a genius because they don’t miss a beat without Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski since newly acquired TE Martellus Bennett had a TD. 3. Ryan Tannehill had 2 TDS but it wasn’t enough because his defense didn’t show up and he also lost his lead RB Arian Foster in the game.
Steelers 24-16 over the Bengals: In a divisional rival game where both teams have good defenses the Steelers outscored the Bengals since they have the better QB and skill players. 1. The Steelers defense showed up and held stud WR AJ Green to under 40 yards showing us the defense looks like it’s back after a few years of being down. 2. You can’t blame the Bengals for losing this game, all divisional games are close games with lots of field goals and they came off a tightly contested win the week before. 3. Despite 2 picks Ben Roethlisberger still found a way to win out despite WR Antonio Brown being shut down by the Bengals because he still threw 3 TD passes to 3 unknowns.
Cowboys 27-23 over the Redskins: Guess what? The Cowboys finally won without Tony Romo at the helm. 1. It was a close game with field goals but the run game showed up with Ezekiel Elliot and Alfred Morris and QB Dak Prescott running in TDS. 2. The reason Dallas won was because they were facing an inferior team compared to the Giants. 3. With a limited QB in Kirk Cousins, Washington had to settle for mostly field goals and also by letting former Redskin, Alfred Morris come back to bite them with the go ahead rushing TD. 4. The only good thing Washington did was hold WR Dez Bryant scoreless.
Giants 16-13 over the Saints: 1. The one thing that surprised me was how little the Giants scored off a bad defense that blew a huge lead up and gave up 35 points in week 1. 2. The Giants defense looks great after stopping the Cowboys and the Saints. They got revenge on QB Drew Brees holding him to 1TD and under 300 yards after letting him get 500+ yards and 7 TDS last year. Also the defense scored the only TD for the Giants. 3. For two good offenses with two good QBS it was surprisingly a field goal game. 4. I’m unsure if it was because New Orleans was done early or it was a high scoring game last week but Mark Ingram looks like he is lost in the shuffle with little to no impact or it could be just game flow or something more.
Eagles 29-14 over the Bears: 1. The Bears as a whole didn’t show up on either side of the ball which was embarrassing.2. The defense let a rookie QB Carson Wentz who is being coached by a rookie head coach in Doug Peterson and crew trounce all over the defense letting them convert on 4th down a few times. 3. Ryan Matthews who wouldn’t be ranked a top 10 RB still ran all over all them getting 2 TDS. 4. Again the offensive line is an issue it’s not the worst but it’s not even average. They didn’t create many opportunities for RB Jeremy Langford to control the game clock to keep the defense off the field. That QB Jay Cutler didn’t have enough time to throw or escape and to make matters worse he left the game with a hand injury.
