He talks about the racial slur of the NFL team in Washington other teams with similar names towards Native Americans. He gave of examples in humor way of how he thinks it’s stupid how other people say it’s ok a few from the group have the problem and he makes name of other minorities. He goes into depth about the teams with names based on Native American teams as well as what Nazi’s did with soccer teams towards Jews.
As a Jew and a sports fan I’m conflicted on which side I am on for if the name is racist or not. When I was reading I was like come on Nazi’s you killed enough of us but to disrespect us by calling your soccer team Jews or other words for Jews and using bad images of Jews is very horrible and most extreme of heard of it.
As a huge sports fan my favorite hockey team is the Chicago Blackhawks and its logo is a Native American. So when your team has had the same name for awhile you don’t want to change it so I can understand people in Washington don’t want to change it. But at the same time you need to realize times are changing and things accepted in past may no longer be accepted presently.
If you read the dictionary the definition of the word “Redskin” is derogatory slur. It’s the only one you can still say in a workplace without getting fired. As a Jewish person there is a racial slur for us and so I understand why people don’t want them to use the term all the time when it’s offensive. The defense for my hockey team is the name used to have a space in between the name and it was based on fighter pilots. The owner of the “Redskins” should change the name and it should be easy with all the history in the DC area like the generals or anything to do with American history.
