Jordan Bernfield, 27, was born in Deerfield Illinois and graduated from college 5 years ago. He always wanted to work in Chicago but didn’t know what he exactly wanted to do in the world of sports broadcasting. He currently teaches at Columbia College Chicago, teaching a class called play-by-play in the radio department. His motto is that you should always outwork everyone else to stand out and be prepared for the next job. He is one of the young guys in the market and has experience in all areas of the media. He used to run his own blog.
He called games for the AAA team Syracuse Chiefs. He also called games for Syracuse sports doing lacrosse, basketball and football. He also did the pre/post games for Auburn Double days and a weekend show. He did play-by-play for Loyola’s TV broadcast and for UIC. He did the radio broadcasts for Northwestern as well doing basketball. He also has done some side work for UIC Women’s basketball, softball and volleyball. He also did some work for high schools in Northwest Indiana.
When he first started at WGN he did the behind scenes producing shows. He now does Cubs pre/post game shows and weekly Cubs show. He did also the sports updates on the radio as well. He recently has started hosting some play-by-play for the Blackhawks on WGN. He said he would do research for up to five hours knowing everything you need to know plus extra stuff. He does so many little jobs but he really wants to do play-by-play for one station or team or he wants to host his own talk show on TV or radio.
