The Score (WSCR) and ESPN (WMVP) are the two all sports stations in Chicago on the radio. They both have several shifts each during each day. Primary ones are the early/late morning and afternoon/midday shifts which are the most popular shifts. Mully & Hanley are on the Score in the morning followed by McNeil & Spiegel, then Boers and Bernstein. They are followed by Laurence Holmes and Les Grobstein the rest of the day. While ESPN has for the early morning shift the Mike & Mike in the Morning show, which is a national show for all of the ESPN station affiliates. This is followed by ‘The Herd’, then the Carmen Defalco and Jurko show. Waddle and Silvy are on in the afternoons.
The major difference between the two is that ESPN controls the programming for AM 1000. It has SportsCenter on at night and in the early morning. It also airs the Bulls games in the evening through the night and has a post game show after each Bulls game. It will also broadcast the radio feed of other sporting events on ESPN. The Score is the official radio home of the White Sox. Whenever the White Sox are on they adjust the schedule around their games. The Score is also owned by CBS Chicago and its sister station is WBBM. I personally love listening to the Waddle and Silvy Show and the Mike & Mike Show on ESPN 1000. I like the banter between each for both shows and the fact that both Waddle and Mike Golic are both former players turned broadcasters, so I like their perspective on sports. I like when ESPN has Steven A. Smith on because he tells it how it is. I wish ESPN would have more local shows or talk more about the local teams. I don’t like Boers and Bernstein because they have an arrogant attitude and they think they are always right, and don’t give listeners an opportunity to express their viewpoints treating their opinions as if they are invalid.
